Gentian is a Tech Startup established in March 2020 to demonstrate that high resolution optical images could be used to carry out high-quality assessments of natural capital.
At the core of our service is ecology and our mission is to put nature-based solutions back on the agenda and to make it possible for individuals and organisations to understand the environment in which they live or operate, providing a service that evaluates the habitat types in urban, suburban and rural zones, providing meaningful and timely information that can be used to baseline, evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of strategies to improve or protect biodiversity.
We use the latest machine learning technology combined with the highest resolution aerial and satellite imagery to assess an area for habitat type and biodiversity value. We provide this information to our clients in ready-to-use, reliable and consistent reports that detail the method and results used, so that our clients can gather evidence, prioritise and monitor changes in the environment year-on-year.
Amongst our portfolio is our unique Remote Green Roof Surveys provide information on the existence and type of vegetation on roofs within an urban area and we are also able to identify buildings that have a very high probability of being suitable for retrofitting with a green roof or biosolar roof (mixed solar panel and vegetation).
Our Team
Gentian is a fusion of experts from the worlds of ecology, machine learning and the satellite industry. This unique blend of individuals with cutting edge skills and deep industry knowledge, has enabled Gentian to rapidly develop new technology. Gentian is additionally supported by our Founders Group, which includes successful entrepreneurs who invest their time in helping our team to navigate from startup to a game-changing, successful commercial enterprise.
