Gentian was founded by a group of environmentally-minded individuals who saw a niche for the use of satellite technology to solve issues in the built environment, with a focus on biodiversity. Our founders are sourced from the fields of ecology, surveying, and AI research.
Gentian is using earth observation data and machine learning to identify habitats within a given site, and split those sites into parcels which can each be assigned a different category of habitat. We also work to identify and categorise green roofs, and identify retrofit opportunities. Our service is continuously evolving, and we are currently working in the biosolar space to create a new product for customers who wish to decarbonise their energy needs.
We started work with a grant from the European Space Agency (link to PWP), who have supported us commercialising our research and findings. Now, we are offering our service to landowners, developers and local government clients who wish to meet their regulatory requirements and implement urban green infrastructure solutions.
Gentian products all follow a similar end-to-end process for which the main steps are shown below. Along the process, several quality checks are performed by our internal experts in Remote Sensing, Machine Learning and Urban ecology in order to ensure a quality product.
